The AU SDE is the second University in South India (after Mysore University) to start offering courses under distance education mode. The University has about 85,000 students persuing their Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses under Distance Education. The University is the second university in South India to offer courses under Distance Education. The Institute had a total enrollments of 62107 in 2000.
The University is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi.
